What is rTales? Who did this?
After some research about setting up a Blogdown site, conceptualization of ideas and also some inevitable procrastination, finally rTales has come to fruition.
What is rTales?
rTales is (yet another) Data Science blog, but cutting the fluff. The idea is to answer practical data science questions first with a Reprex. This term stands for ‘Reproducible example’ and it was coined by Romain Francois.
New favorite word smash: reprex, for {rep}roducible {ex}ample. Will use it everywhere, starting https://t.co/Wk4lqYQ6Oz cc @JennyBryan

For those who aren’t familiarized with the concept, this is often requested by user respondents when they are trying to resolve issues or questions in Github or StackOverflow. This is because it is easier for everyone to understand concepts when we are able to share a common example that can be reproduced and scrutinized.
rTales comes from the spanish word retales which means remnant in english. And it’s used in spanish pop culture as an craft work by assemblage of diverse elements. Here I seek to use small remnants to put together data science solutions
As a Data Scientist, I find myself constantly surfing the Internet to find practical solutions to the problems that I encounter. Sometimes, the answers are quick and easy to implement. But some other times I need to piece together knowledge from multiple sources and taylor the answer specifically until I can resolve my issue. That’s why rTales is born with the aim of solving these complex questions that I have to figure out myself.
So how is this blog going to do that?
The format for many of my blog posts will be Q&A type format with a simple reprex R code
answer right after the question. You should be able to simply copy and paste this answer in your R console
and see how this answers the question. Then I will try to address in the post with details and business applications of the solution.
Note to Academics This site is not meant to be purely academic. Even though I will stay loyal to the mathematical principles that govern Data Science, this site will have the lens of practical approach and business application (when applicable)
It is worth mentioning that I also plan on doing some tutorial posts for those topics that require more than just R-programming
. I would like these posts to be as concise as possible, and include them in a separate library in the website to host tutorials.

My name is Álvaro Jesús Aguado Marín Zorrilla Rabad´n Contreras Rodriguez López López but you can call me Big Al.
I’m a professional Data Scientist currently working for GSK Consumer Healthcare. I build solutions to help answer business questions with the help of data, statistical learning and technolgy. I strongly believe that in the era of data, analyst should not only output numbers, because it is more important than experts to interpret the truth behind the numbers.
I have two bachelor degrees, one in Business with minor in Computer Science by the University Pablo de Olavide and a second one in Market Research by the University of Seville. I also hold a Master’s degree in Data Science by UCM and I’m currently pursuing a Ph.D in Business Data Science at NJIT
I have a passion for technology and mathematics, so this world of data wrangling and crunching pretty close to a hobby. I say pretty close, because normally the definition of a hobby implies something you can share and do with friends, but Data Science stories tend to yield less friends. So that wouldn’t be a hobby, would it?
I’m from Spain but I currently live in New Jersey with my wife Sara. I love to travel the world and do handstands everywhere I go. My other loves are my family, basketball and my bed (It’s extremely comfortable)
